The challenge from the PA Newspaper Association Foundation and the Erie Times News offered a opportunity to area schools to think of an act of kindness and a chance to win at $1,000.00 prize to assist in this project. The project the 6th Grade class developed was entitled Blankets, Bears, and Books to benefit the children of SafeNet. Many members of the 6th grade class will be at the SafeNet Administrative offices at 1702 French Street on June 23, at 1:00pm, along with members of the Erie Times News and the PA Newspaper Association to present this project. SafeNet is not a homeless shelter, but a safe and confidential place specifically for men, women and children who are victims of domestic violence. From every city and township in the area, victims come to SafeNet seeking support, safety and shelter from physical abuse and threats of violence occurring at home. After more that 30 years of providing shelter and many other supportive services, SafeNet knows first-hand that there is hope and there is help. SafeNet is Pennsylvania’s oldest continuous running domestic violence shelter.
