Local Officials to Make Presentation to SafeNet: Silent Witness Figures to be Displayed at the Courthouse

On October 24 and 25, four red silhouettes will be on display on the steps of the Erie County Courthouse, 140 West 6th Street. Along with the Silent Witness Figures, many of the local survivors of Domestic Violence have produced red laminated cardboard figures to represent the 700 plus PFA or Protection from Abuse orders that were filed at the Erie County Courthouse last year. This display will take place rain or shine.

According to SafeNet's Executive Director, "With the problem of domestic violence on the rise in Erie County, it is imperative that we bring our message to the citizens of Erie County." SafeNet services will continue to aid and support all victims of abuse and their children, empowering them with a sense of their own dignity and their right to live free from abuse.

In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Mark DiVecchio, Erie County Executive and a representative from Joe Sinnot, Mayor of the City of Erie and many of the Regional Chiefs from local law enforcement agencies throughout the county, will make a special presentation to SafeNet on October 24th, 11:00 am on the Erie County Courthouse steps. Note: A DV survivor can be made available with notice. If you want an interview with a survivor, please call Rick Liebel to schedule.

SafeNet is not a homeless shelter, but a safe and confidential place specifically for men, women and children who are victims of domestic violence.  From every city and township in the area, victims come to SafeNet seeking support, safety and shelter from physical abuse and threats of violence occurring at home.  After more than 30 years of providing shelter and many other supportive services, SafeNet knows first-hand that there is hope and there is help. SafeNet is Pennsylvania's oldest continuous running domestic violence shelter.

PLEASE NOTE: For interviews with SafeNet's Executive Director or any staff member of SafeNet, contact Rick Liebel, Public Relations and Development Director at 455-1774 extension 234 or email at rliebel@safeneterie.org.
